Citadel

Recomiendo verlo en HD desde vimeo
I advise to watch it in HD from vimeo

Another shot to test the possibilities of camera mapping and spherical matte painting.
This time I started making the buildings geometry in sketchup, i love this software. I used models from Sketchup Warehouse for attrezzo and the ships. After that, I imported in 3dsmax and made the cliffs, basically a box with procedural displacement. In the end I used a panorama shader for mental to extract the base image and project in to sphere. Below you can see the base image, the final painted in Photoshop and the projection on a piece of sphere.

The next stage was the ships camera map and their animation, the sea animation and how to achieve good and real reflections. Well, for the ships I made a basic render to paint over it but because of the animation, I needed another projection to fix some errors. The sea animation is made by an ocean Mental ray shader, and I got a good reflections with a camera map projection of the last frame over the buildings geometry. Below you can see the base render of the ships, one frame with the ships camera map and the reflections ready to be composed.

To finish, i made a basic seagull model with only a difuse texture and after I animated the wings. Then I used it as a particle instance, to scatter over the scene.
And I added other element, the flag, to give more ambient.
